Fried Salt Pork

1 package of sliced salt pork
flour
frying oil
milk

Put flour in a large bowl, and put milk in another bowl.

Bring to a boil a panful of water. Put in slices of salt pork

Boil for about 10 minutes, this takes off the excess salt.

Get your frying oil ready to fry in the meantime.

Drain the salt pork

Now this is your choice in what specific order you choose, but I chose to flour, then dip in milk and flour again

Fry until golden brown on each side

Drain on paper towels and eat!

My poor neglected blog

Goodness, it's been awhile!

Well, later, I will be adding photos and recipe to Fried Salt Pork. I had a craving for it and it was so good! It is VERY unhealthy, but it's very good! Lot's of Choctaws eat or have eaten it, and usually have it along with frybread. My mom would make it to accompany pinto beans or with white gravy.

I'm still "creating"

Things slow down this time of year, as my husband gets really busy with band directing stuff. So, any time I have is for family. I have managed to make a few bags though. But, no home projects lately, I need to kick myself around and do that!

Chocolate chip lentil cookies

I looked up several variations of this recipe. Some friends from a message board had this similiar recipe and people liked the results. So, I fooled around with the recipe and came up with this.

Lentil Oatmeal Chocolate Chippers

1 cup of brown sugar
2 sticks of real salted butter
2 eggs
1.5tsp vanilla
1 cup cooked and Pureed Lentils, let cool
1.5 cups of white flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 cups of regular Old Fashioned oats
1 11.5 oz. bag of chocolate chips

Mix all your dry ingredients, then add your wet ingredients, then add chocolate chips. A stand mixer would work fine, but if you choose to mix it all in a bowl you will probably have to use your hands.

bake at 375 F for 10 minutes.

Tie Dye

Now, I used to not really like the whole Tie Dye thing. I'm a girl from the 80s style, so stuff like that just wasn't cool.

Well, now that I have this lil' 4-year old who likes to use his shirts as napkins half the time, I have grown fond of the tye dye features. Features? Well, if you dribble or wipe something staining on them, it's hard to see and the shirt still looks decent after several washes and "stainings", ha, ha! Plus, my son just loves the funky colors. Oh, and I don't mind making them, it is fun. This time I did some muslin just to see what would come out. Pretty neat and I am not sure what I will make with it yet, ha!

New Blog, just for bags

I decided to add a blog that is just concerned with handmade bags only. I'll still add to this blog because I'm always doing other things and it helps me keep motivated sometimes.

Macro Photography

I've tried my hand at a little Macro photography, and that rose at the top is one from my neighbors yard. I had a lot of fun taking photos one day. I don't have a real approriate camera for that type of photography, but not too shabby for a Sony Cybershot. I had fun anyways.

ELVIS Bag!

I found this Elvis Craft Panel at Hancocks, stuck in a lonely corner. I had never seen it before, and believe me, I scour that place for cool fabric, ha! My neighbor LOVES Elvis, so I gave her this bag. She almost peed on herself from excitment! ha, ha!

The directions called for just covering the raw edges with bias tape, but that looked so ugly. So, I made an inner part covered with fused fleece, and nice big pockets on each side. The extra Elvis decorations were used inside the bag.

Trunk Stuff

Well, my idea of covering the inside of the trunk with wallpaper fell out the door or rather trunk actually, ha! It wouldn't stick very well, so I ripped the one piece I managed to sort of stick in there.

So, I decided to use glue and fabric, I've done this before on something. So, 8 yards of cheap fabric from Walmart and a big thing of white glue is working great. It needed some sort of covering on the inside, it is dirty looking and the old paper in there is coming off which reveals old icky parts of the trunk.

I put the final coat of Polyurethane on it and it is just beautiful. I'm so lovin' this trunk! Have no idea where I'll put it yet, but I'll find a place! ha, ha!

That old piece of Junk Trunk

I saw the beauty in it when I saw it in that dumpster. My husband sure didn't back then, but he does now! It has cleaned up wonderfully. I painted all the metal parts with black Rust Oleum paint, stained it and putting a few coats of Polyurethane on it.
